Actually on the behalf of all of us.. =)

Today morning

my child hood buddy nages

gave me a call

and We had a discussion

in regards to forming a team

to make a difference

in a childs' life.

( well thats how I see it =)

Basically We'll be coming up

with activities

to help out

in a home.)

She had emailed me the necessary details

and

I have posted them below for all of you to read and if possible consider in engaging yourself in at least one of the activities. (Out of your own will of course =p )

So here are the details:

Background information-

The kids we'll be working with

are from the ages of 6-12 years.

A majority of them come from unsuitable home environments

while (very few of them)

some of them are beyond parental control.

They are referred to the centre

by counsellors, MPs etc.

They have a regular routine

and go to school.

Our activities will probably be

focused in the evening hours

from about 6-9pm

on weekdays and saturdays.

Some of them return home

on weekends

if the home environment permits

but there are still kids

who remain in the home

even on weekends.

So we'll be there for them

on saturday evenings

as much as possible.

This will be a long term project

where each one of us

develops a strong and stable relationship

with the kids

so that they will respond to what is being done.

Very often, volunteers help out only on a one-time basis.

Their work is nonetheless valued.

However, the kids have developed

a general disinterest in volunteers

because

they assume that

the volunteers are never going to return

anyway.

What we will do will change

this and show them

that people do really care.

We will provide them

with the type of long-term support

they require to develop

into the strong, bright and independent individuals

they are meant to be.

For a very long time,

these kids have been victims

of their circumstances.

We have the opportunity

and the means to change this

by empowering these children

so that they rise above

these circumstances.

Let's step up to it.

READING
Library
- Requires a team of 6-8 librarians on rotation;

2 librarians on each shift
- 4 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat)
- Establish computerized borrowing system
- Inculcate values, behavior relating to library etiquette and
caring for books
- Liven up physical setting of library:

putting up relevant
posters etc.
- Organize fun reading activities, eg. story-telling, skits etc. to
enhance childrens interest in reading

CURRICULUM
Tamil Tutoring
- Requires a team of 3-5 tutors
- Curriculum to be prepared by

Tamil teachers and
implemented by tutoring team
- Weekly classes

Secular Moral Education
- Requires a team of 3-5 facilitators
- Collaborate with SSSO to plan curriculum

based on EHV
program
- Weekly sessions

RECREATION
Indoor (Board) Games
- Requires a team to facilitate activities within games area

Art & Craft
- Design weekly programs to engage

the children's interest
and motivate them to explore

their own creativity and talent

Music
- Design weekly programs to engage

the children's interest
and motivate them to explore

their own creativity and talent

Dance & Movement
- Design weekly programs to engage the children’s interest
and motivate them to explore their own creativity and talent

* This is just an initial outline of what is immediately required by the Home.
